Rick Vanderslice is Back on the Radio, and He Has Baggage. And R.J. Jackson, Speaking Of.
At the end of a long week, there should at least be two people to help you cope. That's where we come in.
At 11 a.m. each Sunday, the two of us form a panel with the intent of letting the week just die already. And die it does.
With our guests, with our engineer, with ourselves, we will exorcise the demon known as the past seven days just in time for the next one to be born. Rinse and repeat.
Every current issue we face is a part of a bigger one, and ultimately that is the one that we're after. And then the next biggest.
It's only a matter of time before the secret police picks us off one by one, but what the hell, we'll have had a good run.
Join us until then.
Rational Radio has two more reasons to kick the right wing square in the ass. And the left when we have to. Being in between has its benefits.
This is The Rick and R.J. Radio Show on AM 1360. Moving on...
Rick Vanderslice is a Katie Award winning veteran of Dallas-Fort Worth radio and television, including the long-running The Evening Talk Show with Rick Vanderslice on KERA-FM, the Dallas affiliate for National Public Radio. Aside from those whom he has spoken to living internationally, he has interviewed some of the most well-known and prestigious people in news, entertainment, and politics, both locally and nationally. His decades worth of experience and interest in accumulating intuitive, rational thinkers stands to make him one of the most engaging voices in talk radio.
R.J. Jackson has over the past two years gone from being participant in Rick's recordings to engineer, co-producer, and co-owner of the original Buli Salon, The Vanderslice Salon, and finally, The Rick and R.J. Collaborative, the website and central factory for the whole of their efforts both mutual and individual. Aside from his responsibilities as co-host of The Rick and R.J. Radio Show, he is also head writer of all scripted features within the program, as well as the articles, reviews, and poetry of the website. He is unpublished, has never attended college, and has never won any award, but oh well.
The Rick and R.J. Radio Show is centered around conversation. Observation. Understanding. It is about politics without practicing favoritism or brand loyalty. It is about philosophy without being metaphysical or flippant. It is about the big events of the previous week. It does not lend itself to sensationalism or manipulation of fact. As two opinionated men, judgments are often made, but in constant pursuit of objectivity and regard for every reasonable side. This is not only a discussion between Rick and R.J., it is also a discussion with Dallas-Fort Worth and the United States as a whole. Perhaps the world, why not?
And thankfully, they are great to listen to. Rick is of the baby-boomer generation, meaning he was able to be pissed off that Nixon was pardoned as it was actually happening. R.J. was eighteen just in time for the Y2K crisis to not happen and could only buy cigarettes to celebrate. Aside from already being from different walks of life, their age difference puts them at two unique perspectives that intersect in ways not often achieved, within discussion as well as debate. Throw in a little satire and you've got a damn good show.
